Laina Mae Kirkeide
CV / Audition Material
My name is Laina Mae Kirkeide. I am 16 years old and originally from South Florida. Vibrant music and movement are an influential part of the culture there, and have captivated me since a very young age.
I was bitten by the ballet bug at 7 through my coaches in competitive dance, training initially in the Cuban style. I shifted my focus from competitive dance to ballet at age 11, and at age 12, I moved away from my family to Arizona to train in the Russian Classical style. My Balanchine exposure came from my time spent attending summer programs at The School of American Ballet, and at the age of 14, I was invited to Winter Term and then moved from Arizona to New York City. Throughout my diverse training, I have had the privilege of working with some of the most innovative and talented dancers, instructors, and choreographers in today’s industry. My technical skills and the emotional depth of my performances continue to be consistently recognized.
I am truly living every aspiring ballerina’s dream in my daily life as a student in Lincoln Center. There I am steeped in the visual and performing arts, architecture, and fashion. However, I have always loved math, and I believe the melding of artistry and mathematical principles in music and dance are what drew me to ballet in the first place. New York City has opened my eyes to the human decision and policy making that surrounds my daily life as an emerging artist, and piqued my curiosity in the financial markets that reside there. My high school studies include Advanced Placement classes that focus on mathematics, economics, and the social sciences.
